The Right Way To Pray
1 Who To Pray To
Prayer is to the Father, through the Son, in the Spirit.
We Are The Son’s Of God
As Many As Received Him
John 1:12 (KJV) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 1:13 (KJV) Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
That We Should Be Called The Sons Of God
1 John 3:1 (KJV) Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Because Ye Are Sons
Galatians 4:4 (KJV) But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Galatians 4:5 (KJV) To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Galatians 4:6 (KJV) And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Galatians 4:7 (KJV) Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Because We Are SONS We Are To Pray To OUR Heavenly FATHER
Our Father
Matthew 6:9 (KJV) After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Your Heavenly Father
Luke 11:11 (KJV) If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
Luke 11:12 (KJV) Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
Luke 11:13 (KJV) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
We Cry Abba, Father
Romans 8:12 (KJV) Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
Romans 8:13 (KJV) For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Romans 8:14 (KJV) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:15 (KJV) For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Romans 8:16 (KJV) The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Ask The Father
John 16:23 (KJV) And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
We Are To Pray In Jesus Name
Ask In My (Jesus) Name
John 14:9 (KJV) Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
John 14:10 (KJV) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
John 14:11 (KJV) Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
John 14:12 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
John 14:13 (KJV) And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
John 14:14 (KJV) If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
Pray To The Father In The Name Of The Son
John 15:16 (KJV) Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
This means we ask on the basis of the merits of Jesus Christ, drawing on His account.
In The POWER OF The Holy Spirit
Access By One Spirit
Ephesians 2:18 (KJV) For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
In The Spirit
Ephesians 6:18 (KJV) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
In The Holy Ghost
Jude 1:20 (KJV) But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
The Spirit Itself Maketh Intercession For Us
Romans 8:26 (KJV) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Romans 8:27 (KJV) And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
The Holy Spirit Leaves Us When We Sin
Psalms 51:11 (KJV) Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
2 How To Pray
We Must Pray Believing
He That Cometh To God
Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Let Him Ask In Faith
James 1:5 (KJV) If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
James 1:6 (KJV) But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
James 1:7 (KJV) For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
Confidence That We Have In Him
1 John 5:13 (KJV) These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
1 John 5:14 (KJV) And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
1 John 5:15 (KJV) And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
We Must Pray Persistently
Ask, And It Shall Be Given
Matthew 7:7 (KJV) Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Matthew 7:8 (KJV) For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Matthew 7:9 (KJV) Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Matthew 7:10 (KJV) Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
Matthew 7:11 (KJV) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
The Widow Woman
Luke 18:1 (KJV) And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Luke 18:2 (KJV) Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
Luke 18:3 (KJV) And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
Luke 18:4 (KJV) And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
Luke 18:5 (KJV) Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
Luke 18:6 (KJV) And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
Luke 18:7 (KJV) And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
Luke 18:8 (KJV) I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
Like our earthly parents, the Heavenly father sometimes desires to see how much we really desire what we request.
We Must Pray Earnestly
